Using Tech for Assessment
DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASSESSMENT
Pre-Assessment: these are usually tests, quizzes, and surveys that are given to students before the curriculum is taught. They usually are not expected to know much about the topic, but it gives the teacher an overview of what they need to teach. Formative Assessment: these are the tests and exams given to students while the curriculum is being taught. The results usually show students progress and tell the teacher where they need to focus. Summative Assessment: graded tests, projects, & assignments at the end of the curriculum. These demonstrate the students' overall learning from the whole year, quarter, or semester. Performance-based Assessment: This assesses the student during a task that usually requires higher level thinking and cooperation with other classmates in a group project. Teachers believe this is a better way to assess learning because it is more accurate and meaningful. Portfolio-based Assessment: When the students in the class gather all of their work from the year and create a portfolio. This shows their overall progress throughout the curriculum. Can be collected through technology or physically in a folder. |

For Portfolio-Based Assessment, I would use GOOGLE FORMS.
Part of Google Drive, Forms, is an incredible way to assess student learning. Forms is one of my favorite all time tools. This assessment tool allows me to push out a multitude of questions via a form – which is much like a survey. Student answers then populate into a spreadsheet – and that is where the fun begins.
